YWAM Reef to Outback's January DTS outreach team to Bali has found themselves in a tiny village outside a city called Singaraja in Northern Bali. They are staying at an orphanage of about 30 children that’s being operated by YWAMers. At first glance, the team believed that these kids were absolutely normal, healthy and fulfilled and they are, but actually, almost all of them had come from an incredibly challenging background filled with abuse, refugee camps, the loss of one or both parents, or being sent away from their family due to economics. It was a heartbreaking situation and yet hopeful that they have been able to experience such growth despite the incredible history they each have.
When the group left Denpasar they had mixed emotions; they had formed great bonds with the small YWAM family at the Bali Base. Arriving in Singaraja, their schedule has required a fair bit of initiative, most of the group is rising to the challenge. The orphanage just loves for the group to play with the kids. Many of them are at school and writing exams, but the younger ones are drifting around every day. During this time, the team does work in the kitchen, games outside and the guys built an orchard.
A group of the team took a drive back to Denpasar to visit a teenage prison. On Friday morning they will all be leaving Singaraja and head back to Xtreme ministries to work with youth groups, hospitals, prisons and prostitution.
