The Arafura Games in Darwin proved to be an excellent stepping stone into East Timor for the outreach team from YWAM Reef to Outback's January Discipleship Training School.

The team served at the games which are a mini-Olympics for nations in the Arafura Sea region. Amidst serving on the media team, getting stories for the newspapers about the athletes and also helping on the medal ceremony team, the students have taken the opportunity to talk to many of the games organisers and participants.
“As the team was standing around the other night holding flags a man came up and started talking to them,” Naomi, the team leader says, “when suddenly, they were surrounded by heaps of media wanting pictures of them with this guy. He turned out to be the Chief Minister for the Northern Territory. The team also found out that he was going to be in East Timor at the same time as them. He thanked them for coming to the games and helping.”
The students even got a chance to practice their Tatum dialect on the East Timor athletic team at the games and
discovered that the athletic team would be on the same flight to East Timor as them.
After arriving safely in East Timor, the group made their way to the village of Searolan where they will be for two and a half weeks with no electricity or access to email. They are enthusiastic about the weeks to come!
