About Me:
I don't have a significant other; I have a significant ONE, no other!

Serving 2 life sentences: Abundant Life and Eternal Life
Born to die. . . For the wages of sin is death. . . Born again to live! But the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Play the Christian game and lose. . . or live the Christian life and win . . . you choose!

NOT JUST ABOUT ME: ABOUT WHAT'S IMPORTANT TO ME!

God is first priority in my life -- I have a personal relationship with Him through His Son Jesus Christ, Who is my Lord and Savior. I find f.i.s.H. (fulfillment in serving Him). My first ministry is to my family.

My favorite non-biblical phrase comes from the great philospher, Ron Wood, who said "If life were fair, I'd still have hair." I lost most of my hair in '95; the problem is each strand of hair is replaced by ounce of weight. Bummer.

My favorite grade to teach was 5th, because they still think I'm smarter than they are, they laugh at my jokes, and I'm taller than most of them. Then this year, for the first time, (2007-2008), I'm teaching 6th grade at Pacific Drive in Fullerton, and I must admit I am loving it, even though they only shake their heads at my jokes, they're almost as tall as I am, and some are even smarter than I am. I now have two favorite grades to teach. GO DOLPHINS!!! (not the Miami ones, the PacDrive ones!)

Name
JoAnn Hammer

Birthday
A very fine day in March, 19??
(I turned 40 in 2001 ... you do the math!)

Interests
Teaching, reading, creating short-cuts

If I were an animal, I’d be a
Dolphin . . . oh, wait, I already am --
A Pacific Drive Dolphin!

How I became a rocket scientist...
... actually, I didn’t. I’m afraid of heights, and rockets go WAAAYYY high!

I did, however, become a teacher, but it took a while. Where do I start? Well, the beginning is as good a place to start as any. I was born in the Philippines, but we moved to Guam in 1972. My parents were not in the military; they were medical personnel. In 1975, we moved to Oxnard, where I went for junior high (Go, Blackstock Panthers!!!) and high school (Channel Islands Raiders Rule!!!)

It was in 9th grade that I first fell in love. I saw this cute kid with a letterman's jacket (very important to me back in the day... by the time I found out his letter was in golf, it was too late -- I was already crazy about the guy), and even though we didn't meet for two years, I made sure he knew he had a secret admirer. He finally noticed me my junior year, and the rest is history. He asked me to be his girlfriend in 1978, and we were married in 1983. Yup, the golfing hunk was and is Mr. Hammer.

I am a mother of 3 -- Jhen, 22, just got married in July '07; Jacky, 21, returned to Australia to staff a YWAM base for two years; and Jimmy, who graduated in '07 did the RTO JMY school and his outreach in Indonesia. While the my kids were growing up, I was a stay at home mom... as soon as they were all in school, I finished my degree and began teaching.

I completed most of my courses at Cal State Northridge, but received my degree and teaching credential from California Baptist University in Riverside. I've been teaching since 1994; I've taught 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades; this is my first year teaching 6th grade, and I must admit it is a whole lot more fun than I had first imagined.

A lot of things you may have wanted to know about me... ...but were too shy to ask!

~~ My personal relationship with Jesus Christ is the most important thing in my life, and it influences every choice I make.
~~ I can't eat ravioli!!!
~~ I love dark chocolate and Coca Cola
~~ My first computer was a Tandy.
~~ Now I own a Dell, and the only good mac is a Big Mac, and even that's debatable. Just kidding. My work computer is a Mac, and I love it.
~~ I allow myself three mistakes a day... if, by chance, I make three mistakes in one day, then I start all over again and give myself three more.
~~ I love word games.
~~ I have two three-inch screws in my neck keeping my head from falling off...
~~ I have a GPS system in my car that doesn't keep me from getting lost, but it does confirm that I AM lost...
~~ I lost most of my hair in '95, and it never came back completely; that's where I get the phrase 'Life's not fair. If life were fair, I'd still have hair."
~~ I was never on the Philippine Jr. Olympic Diving Team. I lied about that and paid dearly for it with my dignity.
~~ I am an active member of Whittier Area Community Church.
~~ I CANNOT stand ravioli.
~~ I just love working with children and seeing their excitement when they learn something.
~~ I don't wear jewelry.
~~ Part of my life story was featured in the premiere episode of the Philippine TV series Pinagmulan: The Journey Home; unfortunately, the show was cancelled after 14 episodes.

Jhen's Unopened Gift

When I visited Jacky in Townsville in August, I was going to be a grandma. When I got back, Jhen experienced a heart-breaking miscarriage; through it all God worked in her and Jon's lives, as well as in the lives of another couple in their small group. God used their experience to bring another soul unto Him.

This Christmas, Jhen wrote a small vignette based upon her experience. This video was written and performed by Jennifer Stark yesterday, December 12.

The Heavens at 40,000 Feet

The heavens declare the glory of the Lord…

I was three hours into a 13-hour flight, and I was beginning to get antsy. I mean, really antsy. My legs wouldn’t stop twitching, my shoulder was aching, my hands wanted to scratch something, and I was sleepy but couldn’t sleep. I had the window seat of three in a row, and I hated the thought of having to wake up the very nice couple next to me just to use the facilities.

I was feeling cramped and sorry for myself, especially since the as I loo… Continue

We are probably not friends on Ning because I don't even know what it is! You are an absolute treasure and I loved having you (and your cooking) and I'm sure the kitchen didn't mind. I count you as a friend even without Ning.
