Mark

Reading through the Gospel of Mark, one of the things that struck me most was the way Jesus lived out his authority. He didn't come to be this great conquering king gaining fans and worshippers by commanding or forcing his authority over them. He came to live as a suffering servant, which was the last thing the people of the world at that time expected a coming king to be. For this reason, he was ridiculed and mocked and, in the end, crucified.
Looking back on the book, I realized that everythin… Continue

Titus/Philemon

I learned a few things from Titus and Philemon. From Paul’s example in Philemon I was encouraged to put effort into investing in someone else’s life in order to show Christ to them. I have started to apply this at Thursday night Ignite sessions and have already seen fruit from that. There are girls here that need a positive female role model and one that can point them towards Christ. So, to implement Paul’s example to my own life, I want to take time at Ignite Bible study to pour into the girl’… Continue

Hebrews

Just reading about some of the things that the people in Old Testament times had to do in order to atone for sins was overwhelming. There was so much involved, not only with time, but with material things. Someone mentioned this week how expensive it must have been to carry out these sacrifices year after year. There was a high cost involved in being in relationship with God. But it makes me think about the sacrifice that was made for my sins. How much did it cost? Even though it was a one-time… Continue

Blog on 1 Peter

" Finally, all of you, have unity of spirit, sympathy, love for one another, a tender heart, and a humble mind. Do not repay evil for evil or abuse for abuse; but, on the contrary, repay with a blessing. It is for this that you were called- that you might inherit a blessing." - 1 Peter 3: 8, 9

Followers of Jesus are called to live in love, preferring others and treating people with kindness and gentleness. It's pretty obvious that when evil is revenged with evil, it always ends ugly. It's more… Continue

Jacob

God made each of us a specific way. He made Jacob to be a quick-witted, wrestler, and Jacob walked in that. Maybe he didn't always walk in righteousness, but nonetheless, he was who he was. Some people are soft, quiet, gentle people and some are loud, animated and energetic. I think that God really desires us to walk in all that He has for us, and to do it with boldness. Jacob was never ashamed of who he was, and God blessed him greatly. God met with him and promised him nations. I think that on… Continue
