G'day from Mt. Isa. I am currently living and helping to pioneer a ministry center in Mt. Isa, Queensland, Australia along with my wife Jill. Mt. Isa is a small mining city of about 25,000 people in the heart of the outback about 1000km west of Townsville and about 2000km southeast of Darwin. Our focus is reaching out to youth, primarily ages 12-17. One of our main programs we use is Youth Street. You can check out the cool stuff happening at Youth Street by visiting our webpage at: www.reeftooutback.com/profile/youthstreetmtisa.

Okay dude. Abelton - to my understanding this software would be ideal for midi sequencing and live application. If you are just looking for a program to multitrack real instruments i.e. your guitar, vocals, etc. my suggestion would be to look into one of the following two programs; Pro Tools 8 Or Cubase
The guitar to computer thing you need is an audio interface - they come in all shapes and sizes depending on your need.
The one I had was a two channel USB interface. So you could record two channels at once. Fine if that's all you need. If you need more channels - it is easy to get an 8 channel interface usb 2.0 or firewire.
Makes I suggest would be; M-Audio, Tascam, PreSonus, or Digidesign.
My suggestion would be to go onto www.musiciansfriend.com and find some stuff that is compatible with your machine. And see if you can get someone to mail it to you over here or pick it up next time your stateside. (Keep in mind voltage differences though. Read the specs and see if the interface can take 120 and 240. I have an M-Audio 8 channel usb interface I got in the states and it takes 240 over here - no worries.)
In most cases you can get software and a compatible interface as a package.
If you don't get them in a package but separately, make sure that the software and interface you get are compatible. i.e. Pro Tools LE won't run without a digidesign interface, where as pro tools Mpowered will work with an m-audio interface. Bro, let me know if you want to chat more. Call me at the base if you like.
My suggestion is if you have some money to use, go for it, get something really sick - you'll grow into it, quicker than you think.
Cheers Bro-
Mike
